How is "My 1 Home Away From Home" different from a time share?

So glad you asked... This is a very exclusive living arrangement; it is a vacation club. The membership is geared to folk like you who are looking for a genuine home-away-from-home experience much like a traditional cottage might be but with the difference being that the setting is rather much more exotic. Also, the membership community is much smaller than one would find in a timeshare since it is NOT an apartment-type NOR is it a hotel-like complex. It is a house, a modernized older hacienda style Mexican home, with all the features that one expects to have in one's house. The grounds are of an intimate character with a pool for one's leisure and also plenty of grounds space for intimate, private times apart. There is privacy and yet there is the opportunity to socialize as and when one wishes. The key is that this is a place where you can recharge your batteries and feel totally rejuvenated.

What is said by Mr. Perkins is noteworthy, especially when he states, "I know that I, for one, much prefer to stay in a one-bedroom condo than a single hotel room when I'm staying in a vacation destination for a week or more."

However, there are some points that definitely do not apply here. Specifically, the following do NOT apply:

  1. In addition, you pay some combination of annual "dues," occupancy charges for the time you actually spend at a facility, and maintenance fees. Not at My 1 Home Away From Home!
  2. Timeshare sales are still the focus of some extremely high-pressure, and often deceptive, sales practices at certain destination areas. Be very wary of accepting any "free" travel if it requires you to sit through a day or two of intense timeshare huckstering. PLEASE NOTE: It is the author's aim to build a cohesive, amiable, respectful community and the FIRST consideration is whether an applicant will likely 'fit in' much as what one might expect to find when applying to a bed and breakfast.

But in a time share one can often choose to use other facilities in different locales.

That may be true but such an option depends on availability and then also there is the question as to whether the 'other' facility will provide the level of comfort and amenities that one wishes to enjoy. Also, there will have to be different travel arrangements made to accommodate such a change and that could prove challenging in itself. Having membership in My 1 Home Away From Home provides predictability and familiarity which means no added stress which is what a vacation should be about.

How, if the week that I have chosen is one that is precluded by other commitments?

Not to worry! A list of members who like to keep weeks flexible will be available for all who desire to be on the list. It then becomes a matter of finding someone on the list, someone who will swap a week with you. Another possibility is that one makes a gift of the week to a loved one.

What is the cost to me to be a member of My 1 Home Away From Home ?

There are 3 plans of which you can choose one

PLEASE NOTE: MAXIMUM NUMBER OF MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE IS 150!

A 15-year membership for a one week per year vacation entitles you to one private bedroom and bathroom; the one-time cost is $7000.

A 10-year membership; the one-time cost is $5000.

A 5-year membership; the one-time cost is $3000.

Should an additional bedroom be desired for your vacation week, depending on availability, a charge of $200 will apply for that week only for the additional bedroom. That bedroom may include a private bathroom at no cost if that bathroom is available.

Okay, the costs are not high like with timeshares or other so-called vacation clubs. What's the catch?

There is no catch. This vacation club is NOT bent on making a profit that will satisfy some conglomerate's cash flow goals or that of shareholders. This is a private vacation club and, you could say, an exclusive vacation club. In all probability it is unique.

What does the place look like? ... What can I expect?

I hear in our news that there are murders committed. Isn't it a dangerous place?

It is true that acts of violence occur but they are not the norm. Our media tends to play up anything that may bring attention to themselves (sell papers or air time) and neglect to make a comparison to the violent crime committed in our own neighbourhoods. One Canadian couple was slain in their resort hotel room in a Caribbean resort hotel; circumstances never determined as far as I know. Unfortunately, a sad and violent end to their lives but that type of crime can be found in many places including our own neighbourhoods. A young man was killed in a Pacific coast resort town after dancing with a stranger's girl friend in a nightclub. If someone were to do that in one of our local nightclubs, the outcome might be much the same.

Mexico is very tough on crime and knives and guns are especially targeted. The more common crimes committed are burglary and robbery. However, if one does not make it appear that riches are to be found on his or her person, you generally have nothing to worry about. Of course, common sense must always prevail. I remember being on a tour where, in Acapulco, one young woman went out with a U.S. marine and he took her for a walk near the docks. That is a dangerous and foolish place to go in most cities in the world if not all cities, especially at night. They were jumped by two men; the marine ran off and the woman was raped and robbed.

Is there a way that I can sponsor someone to become a member?

The answer is a resounding "Yes, of course!" And if that results in the sponsored person becoming a qualified member then a reward for such action will be given as a 10% bonus (of the new member's contracted cost) payable after six months of the new member's enrollment.
