Some choose to go to a beach; some choose to experience another culture; some choose adventure and seek thrills and there are other choices too. There is a saying that a change is as good as a rest.

Personally, I prefer to have both change and rest in a hospitable, friendly, intimate setting  where I can enjoy both the colours and sights of a bustling market or else retreat to the intimate setting  of an older yet modernized hacienda or to my own bedroom and bath as I wish.

I like to find both change and rest in a quiet place, a place of tranquility, that allows me to rest and yet a place that also will expose me to a chance to explore a different culture (and history and geography) from what I experience at ‘home’. Then, the place to which I have come becomes my other ‘home’, a home where I can relax and enjoy either solitude or company and all the wonderful things to discover and explore that help expand my horizons and recharge my batteries. It becomes My 1 Home Away From Home! That is Cuernavaca!

Not being a beach comber in temperament or by wishful vocation, I choose culture and enjoy the ambiance that comes with it in the historical and geographical setting that I find in Cuernavaca and that helps me to stay alert, young at heart, in soul and spirit and yet restful. What a dichotomy of feelings!

Where is this place?

For the moment Cuernavaca airport (Airport Code: CVJ) is served only by flights from Mexican airports like Tijuana, Guadalajara and Mexico City. The airport is in the process of being expanded in order to reduce congestion at other airports in the region, and so most visitors from outside Mexico still arrive via Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport (Airport Code: MEX). Busses to Cuernavaca can be boarded directly at the airport or at the Southern Bus Terminal in Mexico City. Busses are a much more common and luxurious way to travel in Mexico than in Canada or the United States so the rates depend on how comfortably you’d like to travel for this 2-hour trip.

Driving to Cuernavaca from Mexico City is fast and efficient with a new six-lane toll highway. Once in the city, taxis are a perfectly affordable option though they are not metered, so you’ll want to agree on a price before you get in. Also renting a car is a great option if you’d like to travel more extensively around the city and the beautiful state of Morelos.  Click here for a Google map  of Cuernavaca and region.
